Current Examples of the affects of Meditation
Tibetan Buddhist Monks - Meditation and Science
This video clip, taken from the History Channel documentary about a Buddhist monk, shows monk’s meditating in extreme conditions. This particular segment describes and shows how the meditators were able to soak cloths in near freezing water then warm them up until the cloths were steaming in order to dry them. In normal circumstances, we would not be able keep our body temperatures at normal levels. Not only do the monks withstand the cold temperatures, but they manage to sustain high enough temperatures for a prolonged period of time through meditation practice.
Meditation and Neuroplasticity
In this TED talk by neuroscientist Sarah Lazar in 2011, she explains how her research has found that your brain can change and neurons alter how they talk to one another through habitual activity like meditation.
